Unknown to me the
place that
I work had secretly arranged a This Is Your Life
presentation and video
to mark the occasion of my 70th birthday.
Apparently there had been constant collaboration between my
late
wife Kathleen and those people I had previously worked
with, the planning had taken several
months
all without my knowledge, my wife Kathleen and mainly Elaine
were interchanging the
necessary information
to make the show possible Elaine is the one with the black
book conducting the
show. I had been back at
work after the Christmas break and on January the 4th the day of my birthday
all seemed much the same routine as
normal. But unknown to me they had been bringing in all those
people that you see in the video that I had worked with over the years
at Rolls-Royce, my family, friends
and relations. Well in the late
afternoon I was called upstairs to the office on the pretence of discussing
some
work loading, as I entered the office I saw all
the seating had been arranged in an unusual
pattern. Elaine was standing there
with the black book I was told
to sit down
and Elaine began with the
words
"Les Walker This Is Your Life". At this point I thought it to be a joke and did
not realize what
was to be in store for me but I can say now that I did enjoy the surprise
once I had got over the initial
shock.
But the saddest part
for me is that only 2 days after the video had been made I was going with
Kathleen to see our Doctor because it
suddenly became obvious to myself and our two sons that her
health was
not as it should have been, how she
had managed to put on a brave face on the day of my
birthday without anyone
knowing how ill she must have felt was typical of the way she was, she would
always put others before herself.
Kathleen had many friends in the Derby area and this
video is for all those people that have
known her and would like to
share our last treasured happy moments together that
have been captured
on this Video.

I have to
apologize because this video cannot be uploaded to
my Domain Host
as the file
size is too large 1.5Gb, but if anyone that knew
Kathleen would like a
copy I will
try to send you one, please use my hotmail link
shown in "about me".
There are
other Hosts to upload video's too but you cannot
send anything over
5 mins
long on the free hosting sites, as this one runs for
33 mins. It's a pity
because you
could have had a laugh at my expense.
When I tested
it on my computer of cause it loaded OK as the links
were going
directly to my
own video files, hence my comment "there may be a brief
delay in the
download" was
true. It was only when I published my Website that I
found out the
problem. It
has been quite a daunting experience for me
